Myofascial Release Therapy

Hands-on therapy that releases fascial restrictions, eases chronic tension, and restores pain-free movement.

What Is Myofascial Release Therapy?

Myofascial release is a hands-on manual therapy technique that targets the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles throughout the body. When fascia tightens or develops restrictions from injury, overuse, poor posture, or scar tissue, it can pull on surrounding structures and cause pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility, sometimes in areas far from where the tightness actually started. At Revolve Physical Therapy, our therapists apply gentle, sustained pressure to these restricted areas to release tension, improve circulation, and help your body move the way it’s meant to.

Our Approach

We start by identifying where fascial restrictions and trigger points are limiting your movement, then apply direct, hands-on pressure and stretching techniques to release them. Myofascial release is rarely used alone; we integrate it with our broader R3 Method, pairing manual therapy with targeted exercise, mobility work, and strength training so the relief you feel in session translates into lasting function.

Key Techniques

Trigger Point Release

Targeted pressure on tight, tender knots that cause local and referred pain.

Sustained manual pressure and stretching for fascia release

Sustained Manual Pressure & Stretching

What to Expect

Myofascial release sessions are hands-on and typically integrated into your broader treatment plan. Your therapist will assess your movement, locate areas of restriction, and apply sustained pressure until the tissue releases. Mild soreness afterward is normal and usually resolves within a day or two. Depending on your condition, your therapist may recommend ongoing sessions over several weeks to achieve lasting results.

Frequently Asked Qestions (FAQ's)

Myofascial release is a hands-on physical therapy technique that applies sustained pressure to the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding your muscles) to release restrictions, reduce pain, and restore movement.

It’s commonly used for chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain, myofascial pain syndrome, sports injuries, post-surgical scar tissue, plantar fasciitis, TMJ tension, and posture-related tightness.

You may feel pressure or mild discomfort as tight areas release, but it shouldn’t be sharply painful. Most patients feel looser and more mobile afterward, sometimes with mild, short-lived soreness.

Myofascial release focuses specifically on the fascia using slow, sustained pressure to release restrictions, while a typical massage is broader and more focused on general muscle relaxation.

It depends on the severity and cause of your restriction. Some patients feel relief quickly, while others need ongoing sessions over several weeks as part of a full treatment plan.

Myofascial Release Therapy is available at all four Revolve Physical Therapy locations: River Oaks, Memorial, East Downtown, and Sugar Land.
